THE LASH

Fire Under Grace

2006-06-23

(Local) The Celtic folk-rock quartet The Lash is from Lansing, Mich. (seems that Moriarty's Pub in that town is their home base), and on this third release from the band, another helping of their blend of rock and Irish music is served up. Three are instrumentals (#1, #6 and #9); the rest blend traditional influences with commentary of life as we know it today. They call their brand of music "Celtic Mayhem." I wouldn't say anything here will blow the doors off the studio, but they do emphasize a more power-driven style of Irish tunes than most in the genre. "Ghost World" (#2) has a reggae beat and "The Voice" (#5) uses cell phone rings, but "Newry Highwayman" (#8) is the gem of this set. - MJVD
