Multiple Artists/ Kalamazoo Community Rhythm Project Vol. 1 An album not helping sway the stereotype of Kalamazoo as being a hippie town I thought that, while at points dull and a little to wispy, there are some really solid tracks on this release. I did imagine the album to have a lot of spontaneous drum circle like jams and was a little disappointed to not find them but I think this release will fit in superbly when looking for an esoteric segue. I really enjoyed track four. Five is reminiscent of the African style Paul Simon brought to us in the 80’s. Number nine is a traditional sounding Native American number that I found to be a lot less pretentious than much of the album. Get into number ten, Zumbi, by the Skintones. I think that’s the best the compilation has to offer and it’s kind of a drag they only contributed one track. Eleven’s not half bad while I’m at it. Oh, track 14 is pretty alright too. Derrick.
