The band name, Canasta, led me to believe that this might be dance music or maybe electronic music, or that it might at least be upbeat. (Maybe it's because the cover looks incredibly similar to Dengue Fever's "Venus on Earth" release.) With its second release, Chicago-based Canasta delivers quiet pop with orchestral elements. This is pretty and well-produced stuff with occasional bits of violin or cello shining through. Best song? "Mexico City", with its shouted "Go, go, go" chorus.
