Keeping right on schedule, Dialogue (Calvin College’s student-run organization) has once again launched a new volume in the genre -spanning spring music discs series. Past gate stormers Ben & Bruno keep true to their beautiful form with the piece ‘I’m Awakened’ and newcomer Kyle Veldhouse evokes James Taylor in the best possible way with “Tie Me Up”. The opening track, arranged by Nice Machine and entitled ‘Manifesto’, is reminiscent of intros to classic pyshc records where a band firmly states their intentions by means of spoken word atop sonic wackiness. I liken this to an early, original Electric Prunes line-up studio goof, which is essentially paydirt. The standout is the krunk -via-the Middle East track by Egyptian Heat ‘Flowin’ with the Arabic Beat’. Although quite repetitive, fans of ‘krunk’ style production will latch onto this for sure. All in all, a good year for Dialogue.THE BIRD & THE BEE
