FINLEYKNIGHT

Finelyknight

2014-02-24

Finleyknight consists of brothers John Finley and Connor Knight Detjen.  For their debut release, the brothers moved from their native Chicago to Los Angeles to work with Joey Waronker (session drummer for such bands as R.E.M. and Beck and member of Atoms for Peace).  Here, Waronker works as producer and cultivates the brothers' diverse sound.  At times, Finleyknight reminds me of Radiohead ("Caving In" and "Java Loaky").  The sound, however develops into minor key psychedelia on the pretty "Far From View".  "Cities by David Byrne", with its synthesized vocals, has an upbeat esoteric pop feel.  The rest of the disc then settles into an array of electro-alternative rock songs with nicely-honed production.       Rebecca Ruth
