LENIN/MCCARTHY

Grand Rapids-based hard rock trio Lenin/McCarthy consists of bassist Rick Johnson and drummer Nate Cohn, both of Mustard Plug, and Mario Bourzac (previously of Off With Their Heads) on guitar. Armed with chugga chugga guitars, loud drums, and not exactly sung, not exactly shouted vocals, Lenin/McCarthy provides welcome relief to the massive amounts of indie rock this reviewer has been consuming of late. (Don't get me wrong... I love indie rock.) This debut offers some great song titles ("Faster Wussycat", "Fort Awesome"); but the lyrics come off as a bit earnest. Given the awesome band name and the barrage of sound that pummeled me when I first put this cd in my player (and I mean that in the most positive of ways), I expected better. Rebecca Ruth
