David Levy has done it again as leader of Out To Lunch and given us another album of groove-oriented jazz. Assembled here is a crack team of musicians whose apparent age belies their experience. Out To Lunch takes us on a journey when this album is played from beginning to end. Melvin's Rockpile starts with the slow, ambient piece "Song for the Solstice", goes into the smooth jazz of "Little Neddie Knickers", then works up to the late-night groove of "To the Queen". Things really start kicking with "Sunday in Sausalito", "The Diminutive Swashbuckler", and "Captain Stilts" before the denouement of "Black Tea on Francis Street". Rebecca RuthFERNANDO OTERO
