Mark Stoermer

Dark Arts

2017-01-04

Mark Stoermer is the bassist for The Killers and making a statement debuting his first solo album, "Dark Arts." Stoermer was influenced by Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles and those influences are clearly apparent within his own unique style. This album is a mash of psychedelic blues, rock, and pop, incorporating some synth, organs, wind instruments, piano, and strings on top of the guitar and bass. Enveloping vocal modulations and harmonies keep you aware and curious of the dark and sometimes eerie messages he's conveying to his listeners. The overall sound of this album could be described as what may result if Cream and Pink Floyd were to collaborate with a few classically trained symphonic instrumentalists along with a modern pop producer. My favorite tracks were 2, 4, and 5.
