Daby Toure

Diam

2004-11-15

Daby Toure was born in the Mauritania/Senegal border region. Political and civil unrest led to his emigration to Paris with his father, a medical doctor as well as a musician. Toure participated in various family musical groups in Paris before going solo and releasing Diam, which means "peace."

Toure wrote all the songs and plays most of the instruments on this recording. It's a relaxing, acoustic production highlighted by Toure's warm and soothing vocals. His Senegalese musical roots are apparent, but so are the influences of Western jazz and pop.

Toure's popularity has been growing across the Atlantic partly due to his recent European tour with Peter Gabriel. We now welcome Mr. Toure and his sensual, infectious music to America.
