BAT FOR LASHES

The Haunted Man

Natasha Khan (aka Bat For Lashes) describes her third release, The Haunted Man, as an album of healing and of being glad to be alive. I don't know what demons she is exorcising here, but the lyrics are often dark and contrary to what one might expect given the artist's description. Not only does Natasha sing the vocals, but she plays most of the instruments as well. Guest musicians are added on most songs, and the addition of programming and synths gives the entire thing a rich, full sound. The Haunted Man is full of discomfiting undertones. Even so, I liked it.
