Cake

Pressure Chief

2004-10-21

Q: What do you do when your alt-rock darling moment has passed?

A: Pretend it's still going on.

That's the idea behind Pressure Chief, CAKE's fifth release and a logical progression from their 1996 break-out Fashion Nugget. John McCrea is still at his ironic, sarcastic best, Vincent Di Fiore is still dropping some jazzy trumpet, there's the funked up bass, and we revisit the Sacramento band's fixation on cars. New this release are some updated politics and more attention to layering, yet it all still gives way somehow to the heady, familiar sound of their past.

If you liked it then, you'll like it now.
