James McMurtry's first self-produced record and first studio album in 3 years is known as “Childish Things”. This recording has a classic-rock groove mixed with youthful themed songs such as going to his grandmas’ house on Memorial Day for some fishin’ and pie. The lyrics to these songs are so specific they seem autobiographical. If this is true, the lyrics make for an intimate look at McMurtry and his childhood hopes and disappointments in story-telling format.
