AVETT BROTHERS

The Gleam

2006-09-23

The Avett Brothers, known primarily for their high-quality live performances, have gained familiarity due to their faster, more intense songs on a worldwide level. The Gleam is a release of a different energy, the songs contain the same intensity and sheer songwriting ability in Scott and Seth’s work; however, the direct result of their more subtle approach will surprise even their most loyal fans. The listener is met with themes involving love, murder, sacrifice, life-changing hangovers, aging maturity, arson at yard sales, etc. With only 6 songs on this album, it is their shortest, and, without a doubt, quietest; however, on first listen, one will hear how loud it can speak. Their storytelling-like singing and songwriting will take you over in #1 “Sanguine,” #2 “When I Drink,” #3 “Yardsale,” and #6 “Find My Love.” Jake Burritt
